Shane Vigil is Systems Planning & Analysis (SPA)’s Fellow for Operations Analysis, bringing a rare combination of operations research expertise, aerospace engineering experience, and military leadership to strengthen the company’s analytic and strategic capabilities. He has led major operations research and data science efforts across the Department of War and Intelligence Community, with a focus on space mission engineering and operations. Known for his hands-on approach, he continues to build models, write code, and enforce analytical rigor while guiding teams that have informed multimillion-dollar acquisition decisions and strategic direction for senior stakeholders.

Prior to joining SPA, Mr. Vigil’s industry background includes senior roles at Northrop Grumman and Terran Orbital, where he integrated advanced aviation technologies and engineered complex satellite system architectures. He also completed a research fellowship at Amazon Robotics, developing machine learning and optimization algorithms that improved material flow across fulfillment centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A former U.S. Marine Corps attack helicopter pilot, he logged over 2,000 flight hours and led both small teams and large organizations, earning commendations for operational excellence and digital modernization. Mr. Vigil holds a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Master of Business Administration from MIT. He is active in the Military Operations Research Society and serves on the AIAA Space Systems Technical Committee.
