SPA Director, Strategic Division
Mr. Burton has more than 35 years of experience with SPA after beginning his career here as a college intern. He has provided comprehensive program management, policy assessment, and technical and analytical support to the design, development, and operations of tactical and strategic weapons systems. His efforts have included assessing the potential programmatic and technical options for extending the life of the TRIDENT strategic weapon system.
John Burton is the Division Director of SPA’s Strategic Division. He is responsible for developing and implementing growth market strategy, capability evolution, customer engagement, business operations, and staff development. His division provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to assist customers in making informed decisions on their most challenging issues.
Mr. Burton has also supported the safeguarding of critical military assets and resources through program planning, systems engineering, policy assessment, vulnerabilities and countermeasures analyses, and risk management in support of Nuclear Weapons Surety and Nuclear Weapons Security for both Navy and National Nuclear Security Administration programs. Leading SPA’s Naval Surface Warfare Division, he was responsible for profit and loss, growth, and quality of SPA’s Navy surface warfare, PEO IWS 2.0, Above Water Sensors and Lasers, and SPA’s OPNAV N1 MPT&E business operations. He served in SPA’s Corporate Development organization, leading capture of large opportunities and IDIQ vehicles and also established SPA’s Government Wide Acquisition Center to align, organize, and focus utilization of IDIQ vehicles.
Mr. Burton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Virginia and a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from George Mason University.
