Systems Planning & Analysis (SPA), a leading global provider of advisory services in support of critical national security objectives, supported several dozen employee volunteers as they did their part to “take back the day” by participating in this year’s 9/11 Meal Pack Event.
Almost 30 SPA volunteers across divisions and departments joined forces to build meal packs for local food banks in support of 9/11 Day. The organizers of the 9/11 Day Meal Pack Event are a nonprofit organization created by 9/11 family members directly affected by the tragedy. With over 30,000 volunteers in 21 cities nationwide, volunteers successfully completed around 8,600,000 meal packs.
SPA volunteers were excited and humbled to participate in this great event. The event organizers were well prepared for the large crowd of volunteers, with helpers assigned to each table for the entire shift. The setup included a stage where speakers addressed the crowd; some shared where they were on 9/11 (i.e., Pentagon) and what they experienced. Each volunteer shift began with a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives that day, and a local singer inspired volunteers with her rendition of America the Beautiful.
“This was my first time helping and it was really great to be a part of the local community.”
SPA CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER, MICHELLE HOWELL
The 9/11 Day Meal Pack Events, held around the country, are just one of the ways to help “take back the day” sponsored and promoted by 9/11 Day. This year’s DC-area 9/11 Meal Pack Event was another record day of helping people facing food insecurity across the country. Event organizers work with local Feeding America-affiliated food banks to ensure the food stays local and reaches those who need it most.
