Division Director, Undersea Warfare and Systems Division (UWSD)

Ed Wright leads the Undersea Warfare and Systems Division (UWSD), which provides timely, objective, analysis, strategic planning, and expert operational, technical and acquisition support to the Undersea Warfare community, the Navy, and related agencies and partners. We are trusted agents of the senior leadership in the Fleet, OPNAV, OSD, SSP, PEO Submarines, NAVSEA, ONR, DARPA, and NRL. The Division is comprised of three groups: the Undersea Strategic Systems Analysis Group, the Undersea Systems and Integration Group, and the Undersea Technology Analysis Group.

Mr. Wright has more than 30 years of experience in the management, design, development, and implementation of nuclear and conventional weapons systems, systems effectiveness analyses, missile and submarine vulnerability assessments, nuclear weapons security, and top level weapon system engineering and acquisition processes. Mr. Wright has been with Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. since 1985, and has been responsible for overseeing the growth and sustainment of one of SPA’s core business areas, strategic nuclear deterrence, since 1993.

Mr. Wright has contributed to several studies of the nuclear weapons enterprise. He was a participant in the 2008 Defense Science Board study of Nuclear Deterrence Skills, jointly sponsored by the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. He also provided research and expertise to the Congressional Advisory Panel on the Governance of the Nuclear Security Enterprise and their 2014 report, “A New Foundation for the Nuclear Enterprise.”

Mr. Wright holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University, Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia, and Engineering Management from The George Washington University.
